Here's a couple of good Tv's for under $500:

Ok so you already have a Viera, good choice, I own the same 50" Plasma. What we did is went with a 42" 1080p Panasonic Viera for our gaming TV in the basement. Panasonic makes some of the best TVs, and Plasma looks so much better with gaming than LCD currently does. The Colors are just so much more vibrant on a Plasma.

720P will even be fine for you, as ALL TELEVISION is only up to 720p when in HD mode. MOST video games are also only 720P.

The Halo francise is the most overrated bland game to ever hit the console market. It provides a bad name to all FPS that even showed effort at creating an original entertaining plot.

I probably have more ps3 games than you :/

Panasonic 32" 1080P for... very cheap.

Above I'm a proud Gran Turismo fan, not a Sony fanboy, and now a proud 360 owner, but sharing xbox live accts ATM

End of 2009 Predictions (made Jan 1, 2009): My predictions were pretty accurate, the 360 was over and the Wii was just under.

Wii: 65 mil (yea I'm crazy) 360: 35 mil (its getting there) PS3: 30 mil (the slim better do well)

End of 2010 Predictions (made Jan 7, 2010):

Wii: 81 mil  360: 47 mil PS3: 45 mil

In my opinion, go with Samsung. You can't beat their cost / value ratio. Great picture, etc. Sony is too expensive.

As for 1080p? I wouldn't worry about it unless your TV is a minimum of 40 inches. You won't be able to discern any tangible difference. Go with a 720p because that will give you the best price for the size and the 1080p is just pointless on a smaller TV.

If you're dead set on 1080p, I would roll with a 40-46" inch Samsung. Perfect size for a bedroom.

How much you looking to spend? Thats a big factor. I spent $1500 on just a 40" Top of the line sony. Or you can spend 600 on a 40" and get a garbage TV.   Samsung and Sony Tvs may be the most expensive but i would never consider anything else.

Wow lack of knowledge in this thread is pitiful. First off LG makes HORRIBLE tvs and even their LCDS suffer high burn in. Sony only makes mid quality LCDs but charges top dollar for them. Stay away from LCD at all costs, it's way more expensive for a lesser quality picture. Both Samsung and Panasonic have Plasmas worth checking out, and the price difference is HUGE. Burn in is NOT an issue on Plasma anymore as it was it's first year. You just have to be a little more careful the first 100 HRS of break in. We have 3 Panasonic Vieras in our house, and our parents have a Samsung 50" Plasma also.

Do your research before you go blowing money on an LCD.

LCDS do not burn in.  The worst thing they get is backlight bleed and stuck/dead pixels.. blurring... Plasmas still have some image retention but its no to bad.   Samsung and Sony use similar panels (or the same) as they are part of a joint company that makes the panels for the TVs.  Plasma TVs are slowing fading out.

I Have a 32 inch sammy in my room i use it for the ps3 it;s awesome.
dont go under 32 inches for a lcd. get a 40 that seems to be the right size

VITA 32 GIG CARD.250 GIG SLIM & 160 GIG PHAT PS3

Ignorance is bliss I guess.

LG is garbage, go to local bars you will see tons of burn in on LGs. A couple family members and friends also have LGs and are complaining about the LCD burn in. Low quality TVs in general all suffer from burn in. I have an ancient LCD monitor (from when they first released) and it has some burn in, it happens.

As for Plasma, the only way to get perma burn in is to leave it on the same screen for DAYS. There are built in programs into the tvs now that make sure it doesn't happen.
