Forums - Sales Discussion - Why PS3 is selling well in Europe.

I think the PS3 is selling well in Europe because it's the launch week, and consoles tend to do very well in their launch week. The fact that it broke records says more about it's shipment numbers than anything else. And I'm not saying this to bash on Sony, I just feel bad for those that are saying "PS3 is winning Europe!" Because so far asside from a larger shipment, I see no difference between the Euro launch and the Japan and NA launches.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Iraziel said: As a happy PS3 owner I'm actually scared that we're going to face disastrous European PS3 sales for April and May. As most of the german customers I got my PS3 on friday evening after returning from work (it seems that almost noone thought of a need to skip work just to get a PS3 early). But I was interested in the sales after the launch weekend and so I walked into some stores on monday and counted their PS3 accumulations before I went to work. 2 MediaMarkts, 1 Saturn and 1 Toys'R'Us had a total of 205 consoles sitting around. Yesterday I returned to those 4 shops and was shocked that there were still 202 consoles left. I thought that they may have restocked their piles but the sales managers of the stores confirmed to me that they didn't get new shipments yet. I'm very aware that this is just an empiric sample of my region and that there could be much better sales in another region. And I expect that their will be some better sales on friday and saturday and in the few days before easter but the outcome still leaves me with serious doubts about the demand for the PS3 in Europe. I'll keep an eye on those console piles this weekend.
It's the same here in the UK. Noone can understand where these mythical 100,000s of consoles have gone as nobody knows anyone who bought one!

I cant spek for all the countries .But I live in Spain and I were in Portugal some 10 days ago and as sure as fire burns that there are a lot of consoles in the shelves .And that can be seen today ,not tomorrow or one day . Stof ,its obvious the console is selling specially well becasue in the launch week ,the issue is that with only these sales it has eroded nearly all the advantage the X360 had in one year and a half .In just one week .For example here the X360 has been sold 120K units ,with the 100K units Sony Spain has announced today as consoles sold for the first week it has approached itself so much that in some weeks it will be ahead .Aside of Uk whose X360 market is 1 million strong the other countries have sold much less X360 .The data in this page assumes the usual count that Europe =Uk x 2.5 but in this case it just isnt so ,the X360 has sold quite well in UK and not well at all in the rest of Europe .All those markets have sold 100-150K X360 at best ,most far less .It has already been outsold by the Wii in total numbers except in UK and the PS3 will do the same .PS3 sales will surely slow down ,but even slowing down outselling the X360 here is quite easy .

So the situation in Europe could be different from country to country and there's no way to know for sure whether demand in the whole of Europe is smaller or bigger than in Japan or the US.
haha I live in holland 2, dont know where u have been but in most store there are still a couple standing.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

that reminds me on something that sony said... lets use this sentence for the wii in spain "it is good when the wii is not sold out, so people can walk in the shop and buy it whenever they want to"

to go back on the ads for sony, we have seen a few in france and i honestly didn't get any of them. for ex, one is with a guy with a suitcase full of money, it somehow explodes and then the cash is flying and falling on the floor and then you have the "this is living" slogan... sorry, i guess i'm stupid but this makes no sense and most of all, it doesn't make me want to buy a ps3... so i hope the uk ones are better or that other customers are smarter than I...

Maybe they're saying you just blew all that money on the PS3? (I'm just kidding)

kirby007 is definatly from holland. This is like the 3rd time I've seen him post about that. XD I just wanna say Shams, HappySquirrel, Please try to stay on topic here, and my first post was related to the topic. The advertisements/press. No matter how you look at it, there are almost as many PS3's sold to users in europe, as there are total in japan. Given the fact it's only been out a week now, I'd give it another week or two before we see the bulk of launch-hype to go away. Once again, why I say Wii/PS3/360 sales will be starting to settle into place here in another 3-4 months. benoit - the full commercial is a action sequence. I'm not really sure what it means.

may be i'm too old for that but really, something that you don't get, where you just see money and explosions, with no link whatsoever to the ps3, can make you want to buy it???

The "this is living" ads are awful. FAR worse than the white room ads in NA. I'm not sure how a girl sitting on the toilet saying "this is living" has anything to do with videogames. I was trying to figure out if it was somehow a play off the "Live in your world. Play in Ours." slogan, but I gave up. And yeah... Its selling well because its launch week. It SHOULD be selling faster than Japan, seeing its a much bigger market. But we'll see if PS3 sales reach 1mil in Europe by the end of April. Its certainly not a sure thing, if launch week nets 700K. Not for a non-Xmas launch.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
