If you want one of the most amazing soldier experiences, you need to read (a translation of) "Im Westen Nichts Neues". Goes about the 1st world war. I really like the fact that the writer was actually a soldier and everything he writes actually happened. It is all very well detailed, and u really get to know how a soldier thinks.. They just shut down everything but Survival Instinct =)
