Elder Scrolls Online will have subscription fee

in PC Discussion on 21 August 2013

Just to add to my previous comment as well, I have to wonder how many mixed messages the company is going to be getting on this. It's obvious that there is a small, but insanely vocal group of individuals who believe that sub based play is and will always be the true way of playing MMOs. You can see it all over (Massively is a bastion of anti-F2P around their comment sections, for instance)....

Elder Scrolls Online will have subscription fee

in PC Discussion on 21 August 2013

Wagram said:Why are people so against subscription fees? I'll never understand this. It's not that people hate sub fees. It's that the business model is basically done. As much as people want to try and argue that it's not, it's simply not the case. Free-to-play games that were converted from sub or brand new ones that are being made from scratch now trump games that have a locked...

Elder Scrolls Online will have subscription fee

in PC Discussion on 21 August 2013

It's about the same as the remainder for me: for a sub? No, thank you. It's hilarious to see how many people are going to back for Bethesda for this. It's not because they think that the game will be worthwhile, but every time a company 'dares to buck the trend'? Yeah, people come out of the woodwork to claim that THIS one, this particular game, will be the line where P2P makes its stand and...

How widespread is this? 'No Grades, No Zeroes' Schooling...

in General Discussion on 18 April 2013

Sounds like the 'No Zeroes' policy is pretty common then. Even that doesn't make much sense to me. The 'No Grades' thing just made me want to tear my hair out. @ Superchunk I think what drives me most insane about this is the fact that someone getting 100% will be judged equal to some shmoe who eeked through with 51%. Life is based on the very idea of being better and worse at things....

How widespread is this? 'No Grades, No Zeroes' Schooling...

in General Discussion on 18 April 2013

Evening. Normally, I don't really get bent out of shape about things, as I tend to be a pretty calm individual. Yet there is this thing that seems to be flooding schools in the province I live in (Alberta, Canada) called the 'No Grades, No Zeroes' system. This is an actual thing and it seems to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of... Basically, what it means is that people who go...

Will the equalitarian movement begin the next Great War.

in Politics Discussion on 15 April 2013

Sorry man, but the moment you said 'Libertarian', you pretty much explained why 'equality' is such a terrifying word for you. Equality to normal people means a lack of inconsistency between normal things that often are basic rights. Those who automatically jump to the idea that equality starts coming close to communism seriously need to understand that the US could never, ever end up a communist...

Following Twitter Tirade, Microsoft Creative Director Adam Orth No Longer With Microsoft

in Microsoft Discussion on 11 April 2013

I pretty much assumed this would eventually come, whether it was a resignation, a forced resignation or a firing. The simple fact is that further up you get into a company, the less you're allowed to say because people start to believe that you are a full fledged representative of that company...which you technically are. The old saying fits with corporate methodology, though in a slightly more...

EA: 'We've made plenty of mistakes'

in Gaming Discussion on 05 April 2013

JoeTheBro said: CChaos said: I do, however, enjoy his idea of which comments 'don't hold water'. Especially since he more or less references that people who are a part of the voting are either miscreants who are pissed about who was on the front of the Madden box or don't believe a word they say about how 'always on' doesn't mean 'DRM' or that people voting against EA potentially...

EA: 'We've made plenty of mistakes'

in Gaming Discussion on 05 April 2013

I saw this earlier. I had to say, I got a pretty good laugh out of the guy's article, if only because they stated the same thing when they were voted into that spot last year. They're just jumping the gun this year to try and get ahead of it before it inevitably hits, again. Thing is? It is completely viable for the votes to say that EA is the worst company in America. The reason why? The...

Torment: Tides of Numenera sets new Kickstarter record with over $3.99 million.

in Gaming Discussion on 05 April 2013

This is what happens when you excite gamers about something and have the know how, name recognition and talent to be able to pull something off of this level. Definitely wishing inXile good luck with this one and looking forward to seeing Wasteland 2 in what is, hopefully, the near future....

How long could a Zombie Apocalypse seriously last?

in General Discussion on 30 March 2013

It'd last however long the food lasted, more or less. This assumes the zombies are not intelligent enough to take advantage of things like canned goods, but seems to me like once the larger amount of healthy humans to devour were gone (the healthy people learned to stay away from the zombies or government/military forces managed to quarantine the undead), then it would just end up being a...

Garriott: 'Most game designers really just suck'

in Gaming Discussion on 20 March 2013

I see his sense of self-worth hasn't diminished in these years... All the same though, one probably shouldn't take his words as harshly as they sound. The man has never been good at trying to be diplomatic in his terminology, but I think most everyone has considered exactly what he was trying to say over the last while... If you think about it, most gamers would probably agree that, over time,...

    Hardware up!!! (March 9th)

in Latest Charts on 18 March 2013

Man, the 3DS/Vita competition has been taking way longer than I thought it would. 30m or 5m... But, looks like even if it was 100k per week for the next five weeks, that'll still be enough to push it over. Vita will be longer than that to 5m. So...while very late, looks like it'll be 3DS who makes it first. Finally. Fiscal year for the big three ends at the end of March, correct? It'll be...

EA: We rejected offline play for SimCity because "it didn't fit with our vision."

in PC Discussion on 16 March 2013

Honestly, they did themselves no favours. Botched launched, painting themselves into the 'PR nightmare' corner, inevitable micro-transaction heyday and, before too long, you're going to see exactly what was mentioned in some of the reviews: those 16 player regions that people are going to build their masterpieces in? How long will it be until half of the people in those regions stop playing? How...

Modded SimCity Shows Potential for Offline Mode

in Gaming Discussion on 15 March 2013

Panama said:What surprises me is that there are in fact highways allowing you to connect your cities. Seems that they disabled these on purpose to release it later as DLC. I'm quite disgusted at EA as of late. I used to defend EA as they would bring out some of the interesting IPs at the time, such as Mirrors Edge and Dead Space, but now they're killing everything they touch. They do...

Modded SimCity Shows Potential for Offline Mode

in Gaming Discussion on 15 March 2013

Yeah, that seems like it should be a rather fair request. They're going to be lucky if this thing comes close to a million copies because of their launch and their methods. Naturally, EA will blame the fans....

Microsoft acquires Pando (torrent app), next-gen Xbox expected in June

in Microsoft Discussion on 14 March 2013

Considering that Sony and Microsoft appear to be two of the leakiest companies on the planet, it seems a little strange that if they were going to launch in three months and there was no knowledge of it or leaks all over the place. Honestly, this feels like a bad rumour, despite the source. Just because they're a business magazine doesn't mean they can't get something wrong or end up getting...

Minecraft subscription service revealed and Minecraft 1.5 update goes live

in Gaming Discussion on 14 March 2013

NobleTeam360 said:I can't tell from the article but is the update for the 360 or the PC? It's a PC update. Version 1.5 for the PC. The Pocket and 360 editions are still both a good ways behind the PC, but they'll get there. As for the original posts, it's an interesting idea. Personally, I wouldn't pay that much for it, but one never knows. It could be interesting to see how an MMO...
