in Gaming Discussion, last active on on 06 February 2009

For RPGs, PSN already has: Suikoden I Wild Arms Xenogears (Japan only)   Lets say PSN has hypothetically lined up, for the next few months, available for both PSP and PS3 ($5.99 USD each): Suikoden II Tales of Destiny Tales of Eternia (out of print on UMD I think) Valkyrie Profile (again, out of print on UMD I think) Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain Alundra Alundra 2 Vagrant...

    World's Best Choclolate

in General Discussion, last active on on 26 January 2009

Since there are a large number of readers here from a huge variety of locations around the world, I thought I'd pose a question of profound world-wide interest. Who, in your opinion, are the worlds finest chocolate makers?  Give me the top three, and in order to keep the "my neighbor makes the world's best" out, be sure that any companies you include in your list must sell chocolate at...

You are a FF fan, and you own a Wii...

in Gaming Discussion, last active on on 26 January 2009

Would you: (A) Purchase and play the Wii version of FF XIII, if the game gets ported to the Wii. or (B) Play the HD version of the game, buying a 360 or PS3 for it (amongst other titles you may have wanted) if needs be.     I'm not posting this to discuss the feasiblity of a Wii port, so please don't discuss that here.  Just pretend it could happen at any time.  ...

    Microsoft: making HDTVs next?

in Microsoft Discussion, last active on on 11 January 2009

I found this snippet yesterday: "TV makers look to Web The big players in the flat-panel TV sector all highlighted different innovations at CES on Wednesday, but the common theme is the Internet. Specifically, companies such as LG Electronics, Toshiba and Samsung are all working on new ways to allow consumers to access the Internet through their televisions. The companies have partnered...

Why 3rd party publishers "ignore" the Wii

in Gaming Discussion, last active on on 09 January 2009

They don't really ignore it.  They experiment with it, and will continue to do so, until it solidifies its place as the industry leader in each genre individually. "What are you talking about?  It has already solidified its place!" -- I can hear the Wii well-wishers screaming already.  No, it hasn't, at least not in all genres, but it's well on its way. Consider the following...

IGN AU declares PS3 exclusives "Best of 2008"

in Sony Discussion, last active on on 11 December 2008

Its a 4-page article, so I'm not going to try and stuff the whole thing in here. http://wii.ign.com/articles/937/937510p1.html   I think excluding PC/360 games from the 360 list is a tad harsh, but... the PS3 did have some really good exclusive games this year.   The Wii had the most exclusives. They didn't count 360/PC games as exclusives The PS3 had 3 more entries in their...

So I replaced my Xenon X360 with a Jasper...

in Microsoft Discussion, last active on on 09 December 2008

My release model, no-HDMI Xenon RRoD'ed on me lately, after nearly 3 years of semi-regular use.  Its otw back to MS right now, and when I get the inevitable Falcon refurb back, I'll be giving it to one of my little brothers (I make them sound small, but they're adults, and bigger than me =), along with some games. I went out to the local Fry's Electronics... and lo and behold... a Jasper...

Wii Starwars... less WW sales than either HD console? Why?

in Sales Discussion, last active on on 08 November 2008

It would seem that Star Wars is a license that, somehow, appeals more to the average X360 or PS3 consumer, than it does to the Wii consumer, at this early juncture. Despite a substantial installbase lead, the Wii has fallen behind the PS3, and significantly behind the X360 in sales for this AAA title thusfar. Much like Pro Sports titles (although to a lesser degree), it seems that WII-HD...

Wii unable to conquer the Pro sports demographic... why?

in Gaming Discussion, last active on on 07 October 2008

Some pretty unspectacular numbers for the Wii version of FIFA 09 this week... not unexpected, as pro sports games on the Wii have failed pretty severely, relative to the HD consoles, time and time again, despite the Wiis install base. Why?  Anyone have any good ideas as to why these titles keep running into the ground?  They don't have "legs", contrary to popular belief (look here on...

Golden Axe... who else is getting it?

in Gaming Discussion, last active on on 05 October 2008

I adored Golden Axe in the arcades when I was a kid.  One of the few games that I played sooo much that I could beat it, solo, on one quarter (Heavy Barrel and Ninja Gaiden were the others -- oh yes, I spent a lot of quarters to get that good). When I heard Golden Axe: Beast Rider was a wholehearted attempt at bringing the spirit of Golden Axe into the HD era, I was hooked.  I would...

new PS2 Lego Batman bundle takes over the shelves!

in Sony Discussion, last active on on 27 September 2008

...from the old SCPH-77000 series, of course.   The new North American SCPH-90001 PS2 (built-in power supply, and a little smaller than the old SCPH-77001 slimline) looks to come in both silver and black -- and the black one is bundled with Batman Lego for $149.99. Seems like the old white Singstar SCPH-77001 bundles are being cleared to make room, as well.  I saw them discounted...

New PS2 in the US -- been a while, or have I just missed it?

in Sony Discussion, last active on on 21 September 2008

I spotted the new built-in-powerbrick model of PS2 at the local Target today.  It was silver, lacking the midbar (with the "PS2" logo engraved in it, between the DVD flip-cover and the rest of the machine), and still priced at $129.99 USD. I'm surprised I hadn't heard anything about it... although admittedly this is not big news, since the same model has been in Japan for nearly a year....

Wii VC games, and PSN games from Square-Enix?

in Gaming Discussion, last active on on 08 September 2008

I don't understand why the publishers of many of these classic games continue to let their games be sold as collector's items, rather than re-issuing the games themselves, and making more money off them.  I'm not going to include multi-disc PS1 titles in this list, since I'm not sure the PS3/PSP emulator is even capable of running them. Why don't these titles make an appearance?  I'm sure I'm...

RPGs : mix of Sci-Fi Fantasy, or "pure" Fantasy and "pure" Sci-Fi?

in Gaming Discussion, last active on on 02 September 2008

I dislike the mixing.  I once thought it was novel.  Now... not so much.   A huge number of JRPGs, especially, love to throw in swords and guns/lasers/whatever in whatever mix they feel.  Always with the swords though... Personally, I find mixing of swords and guns/more-modern-tech to be a little weak.  Swords and magic is cool.  Guns and Steampunk is cool. ...
