She made her first appearance in Super Mario Land. You guessed it right, Mario had to save her.

This was pre-Wario. Super Mario Land 1. Mario goes to a exotically themed castle (say, Egyptian based), defeats a Monster (say, a Sphynx) and runs into Daisy:

Daisy: Thank you Mario!

Mario: Oh, Daisy!

(Daisy turns into a monster)

You don't get to the actual Daisy until the final castle (Airship! Whoot!). But hey, I guess that sequence beats "Thank you Mario, but our Princess is in another castle," right?

So does Mario now have to save two chicks?!  Poor guy.  How does he still have time to appear in so many games?  Can't Mario save Peach and Luigi save Daisy to ease Mario's workload?
