And it's super obvious too, because these games regularly lose out the GOTY awards to lower rated titles when everyone starts voting for the best game of the year. Which just proves that even critics don't believe these games are as good as they rated them.

I think it was universally agreed that BotW was the game of the year. Have you ever played that game? I agree on RDR2 its Metacritic rating was too high, the critics were blinded by how masterfully crafted its world was, but I have found the game to be a tad boring on the single player side of things. But man Zelda and Mario deserved the all of the praise that they got.

Yes I’ve played BOTW, and it’s the only Nintendo game that has been a GOTY since like ever, but all Mario and Zelda games score similarly high and lose GOTY to lower scoring games. Just like Rockstar’s games.
