Right, clearly the Switch has not been a failure for Nintendo.

Will the Switch still be doing well in three years, though? That's what I'm curious to find out. I'm not sure if it will have a long lifespan, and if it follows suit with what the Wii did, then sales of it's competitors will overtake the console in the next couple of years. This is why I still think that a hardware upgrade would give the console added life, and I think the way they would need to do it is by allowing developers to tune their games such that both the regular Switch and Switch Pro can play the same games, but with the Switch Pro playing them at a higher resolution or higher whatever.

They don't really need a big hardware upgrade. Maybe a small one ala the New 3DS XL. Best hardware improvement for the Switch at this point would be redesigned Joycons that are $40 for a pair, lack all the motion/IR/RumbleHD tech, and don't drift.

I assume you mean to release a cheaper version of the Joy-cons, and not so much to redesign them. I don't know that those features should be phased out altogether, what with the number of games that are already released that depend on them.

While it is satisfying to read through a thread like this one and see how everyone was wrong about the Switch, I do think that assuming the next PlayStation console doesn't flop, Nintendo will need something to help them stay in the spotlight. Right now the Switch is the cool console to have. It's trendy. It's getting tons of third party support. And as a result it's sales are really slutty.

When the PS5 releases and starts to gain traction, the power gap will be much steeper, and the Switch may no longer feel like tits in your hands (no idea what that means, but I'm trying to nod back to my clever use of slutty in the previous paragraph). (If you're confused, I'm saying the sales are great (tits), and it feels great in your hand (like tits).)

If a multi-platform game gets released and performs well on all consoles, I lean towards getting the Switch version. When the PS5 releases, it will likely be the center of attention (for me at least), and I'll want to use it as much as I can. If Nintendo releases a more powerful Switch soon-after, that would probably keep me wanting to use my Switch primarily for games that are released on multiple platforms.

As far as the hardware improvement goes, the boost that the New 3DS got was decent/good. Something like that for the Switch could extend it's lifespan, I agree. But personally, as someone who spends thousands of dollars per year on gaming, I would like them to release a more powerful Switch Pro with a slightly larger screen at 1080p.
