https://www.pcgamer.com/tim-willits-is-leaving-id-software/
Tim Willits, who joined id Software in 1995 and rose to become studio director under new parent company ZeniMax Media, announced today that he is leaving the company after this year's QuakeCon.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw comes out next month on the Epic Games Store
https://www.pcgamer.com/rebel-galaxy-outlaw-comes-out-next-month-on-the-epic-games-store/
Rebel Galaxy Outlaw will launch next month as an Epic Games Store Exclusive. The Rebel Galaxy semi-prequel is set for release August 13.
Double Damage Games published a new video announcing the date, featuring the sarcastic alien Sandar we've seen in previous trailers. He's once again been roped into explaining the game's features, clearly under protest (just wait until he finds out about the plan to storm Area 51).

Astroneer pays tribute to the Apollo 11 mission
https://www.pcgamer.com/astroneer-pays-tribute-to-the-apollo-11-mission/
It's the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11, the first mission to take humans to the surface of the moon. Space sandbox Astroneer is paying tribute to that momentous occasion with some themed in-game items and the chance to listen to audio from the historic flight.

Valve may be working on a new game code-named Citadel
https://www.pcgamer.com/valve-seems-to-be-working-on-a-new-game-code-named-citadel/
Those mysterious wizards at Valve are up to something, and it may be related to Half-Life. What exactly is going on isn't clear, but based on recent updates to existing Valve games, it has something to do with the Citadel. In the video below, Valve News Network's Tyler McVicker explains what the community has unearthed in a recent low-level engine update to Dota 2.

A big hole has mysteriously appeared on an uncharted island in Sea of Thieves
https://www.pcgamer.com/a-big-hole-has-mysteriously-appeared-on-an-uncharted-island-in-sea-of-thieves/
Shiver me timbers! A big hole has suddenly and mysteriously appeared on one of Sea of Thieves' uncharted islands. The hole was spotted after the most recent update, Black Powder Stashes, which arrived yesterday—though it appears at the moment to be unrelated to the update's new voyages. It may, however, have something to do next month's update, which is called Dark Relics. Or, perhaps it has something to do with an update even further in the future. At the moment, we just don't know. Mysterious.

Overwatch is fundamentally changing how matchmaking works
https://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-is-fundamentally-changing-how-matchmaking-works/
Today Blizzard announced a major change to the way Overwatch will be played. The game is introducing a Role Queue system, and with it a 2-2-2 role lock. Instead of freeform character selection, players in most modes of play will be forced to form their six-person team out of two tanks, two supports, and two DPS heroes.

Overwatch is making Brigitte more of a healer ahead of upcoming Role Queue changes
https://www.pcgamer.com/overwatch-update/
There's a big Overwatch update today: in addition to announcing the Role Queue system, Blizzard has a slate of hero balance changes to go along with the new system. Most prominently, the hybrid tank/support Brigitte is being adjusted so that she's much more of a healer than a tank going forward.

Cyberpunk 2077 will have a 'hardcore mode' with no UI, but not Lady Gaga
https://www.pcgamer.com/cyberpunk-2077-will-have-a-hardcore-mode-with-no-ui-but-not-lady-gaga/
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had adjustable difficulty levels ranging from "Just the Story" to "Death March," which I think are sufficiently self-explanatory that I won't bother getting into the details. (The previous Witcher games had variable difficulties too, but their descriptions weren't quite so evocative.) So too will Cyberpunk 2077, which will actually have a "Hardcore" mode that disables the user interface completely.

Gorn, the VR game about beating the crap out of gladiators, has left Early Access
https://www.pcgamer.com/gorn-the-vr-game-about-beating-the-crap-out-of-gladiators-has-left-early-access/
Developed by Broforce studio Free Lives, the game launched into Early Access in 2017. At the time it promised that "the only limits to the carnage are your imagination and decency", and based on the footage I've seen I don't think that promise has changed since. As of today, it's leaving Early Access and is a feature complete game.

The Moon in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will be twice as big as it was in Destiny
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-moon-in-destiny-2-will-be-twice-as-big-as-it-was-in-destiny/
Destiny 2 is going back to the Moon in the upcoming Shadowkeep expansion, a new locale it teased a couple of weeks ago with a brief teaser. Today, Bungie dove deeper into what players can look forward to in their new lunar excursions with a more detailed "developer insights" video that showcases how some of the familiar locations from the original game have been dramatically updated for Shadowkeep.

The original Borderlands is free on Steam for the weekend
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-original-borderlands-is-free-on-steam-for-the-weekend/
With Borderlands 3 on the horizon (it's arriving in September, which is already closer than you think), it's not a bad time to get acquainted, or re-acquainted, with the original. Well, a newer version of the original, anyway. Borderlands Game of the Year Enhanced is free for the weekend on Steam, which should give you enough time to sample at least a quarter-bazillion of the co-op shooter's 'bazillion' guns.
>> It's free to try, and 50% off if you want to buy it.

Gravity-defying puzzle platformer Etherborn is out today
https://www.pcgamer.com/gravity-defying-puzzle-platformer-etherborn-is-out-today/
Etherborn is a puzzle platformer with a focus on gravity-defying traversal, and while it might not be the first game based on that premise, it's probably among the best looking. The nameless, voiceless protagonist inhabits a surreal world of floating structures, and is tempted through them by a bodiless voice. Once reached, this bodiless voice will apparently help the protagonist "understand [their] own existence". (Why not just send an email ffs?)

Popular board game Gloomhaven enters Early Access
https://www.pcgamer.com/popular-board-game-gloomhaven-enters-early-access/
Gloomhaven, the most highly rated game on BoardGameGeek, is a dungeon-crawler with a campaign that involves playing multiple games then opening secret envelopes containing new rules, placing stickers on the board that reflect your actions, and generally evolving it over the course of a campaign. It's a bit like Risk Legacy or the many games like it.

Here's John Wick reimagined as a brutally difficult, free NES game
https://www.pcgamer.com/heres-john-wick-reimagined-as-a-brutally-difficult-free-nes-game/
You can currently royally battle as John Wick, and you'll soon be able to tactically whack goons in the upcoming John Wick Hex, but where's the straightforward shoot-'em-up inspired by the meteorically popular Keanu-Reeves-starring action films?

Viking RPG Rune 2's deathmatch beta runs this weekend
https://www.pcgamer.com/viking-rpg-rune-2s-deathmatch-beta-runs-this-weekend/
t turns out, being a Viking comes down to a few simple steps, if this new Rune 2 video from Human Head Studios is to be believed. All you need to do is drink some mead, eat some lizards, and survive Ragnarok. Easy-peasy.

Let's go and check the the GOG and Steam deals for the weekend:
