There is no singular cause for diabetes, hence why there are multiple "types" of the disease... So any article that tries tries to make a "definitive, no exceptions" link between that and any dietary habits is disingenuous at best and should thus be discarded in it's entirety.

Type 1 diabetes is caused by the immune system destroying the cells inside your pancreas that make insulin.

Type 2 diabetes has very strong genetic links, plus diet/obesity (usually carb/sugar rich foods) are significant triggers.

Can protein rich foods cause diabetes? Shit yes. Anything you consume which initiates an insulin response can actually cause diabetes... Your body will convert excess protein into glycogen remember.

Where Protein rich foods will not put you at risk is if you live a very active lifestyle, where your body uses and needs the proteins for muscle function, hence why Ketogenic/Paleo/Atkins and other low-carb, protein rich diets can be extremely beneficial for such people. (That and weight loss as it's great for cuts.)

How do I know this? I used to work in the health industry and care for those with Diabetes. I am also an Athlete.

Anyone who conflates Smoking and Protein though needs a reality check, not even in the same league. Protein (And other substances like Creatine) and it's effects on the body is well studied at this point.
Probably a good thing that even the article itself states there is insufficient evidence to draw any definitive conclusion though.

On another note, is it ban worthy to introduce a discussion topic and then never engage with any of the posters? OP does that a lot. He posts controversial topics and then just ignores everyone and spams his own opinion over and over without engaging with anyone.

What I'm saying is, you will definitely not get an answer to your post.

Well. He at-least participates within his threads. Whether he wishes to engage with any specific posters is entirely up to him... He generally ignores me anyway, but I don't reply to his posts for his sake, but for other users who might find my opinion/perspective more valuable.

In short, not aware of any specific rule...
