OOOF. I meant new AAA game. my bad

Since the rumors/general opinions seem to be that some of the other studios won't be working on AAA games for the time being I'm most excited for Playground. Basic bitch answer, I know

Haha, It's fine.

Yeah, It's either Playground or Ninja Theory. The Initiative are hiring incredibly slowly and call their game "AAAA" so I imagine that's going to be like 2023 at the earliest. Compulsion and InExile will likely remain AA for the time being, Obsidian are working on an AAA RPG right now but that will very likely be multi-platform, they have two teams but the bulk of their team will likely be on Take-Two's RPG.

That leaves Ninja Theory, Playground and Undead Labs. Playground started hiring for Fable in late 2017 but they're hiring slowly too, I could see Fable IV releasing 2021 at the earliest. Undead Labs could expand (Only 70ish employees right now) and make State of Decay 3 into a proper AAA title but they're focused on SoD2 DLC right now, plus they aren't the most efficient, they need to make big improvements to their technical staff. If I pitted Playground against Undead Labs in terms of efficiency, Playground would absolutely win easily every time Imo.

Ninja Theory could beat Playground but it depends if you think their game will be AAA, Hellblade was labelled as AAA, took them 3 years to create it but with only 20 staff, they trademarked their next games title earlier this year or late last year (Can't remember) but I think they had like 100ish employees which 20ish were working on Hellblade so likely they're already in development of their next title whereas Playground seems to still be in pre-production.

So yeah, Ninja Theory could likely get an AAA console exclusive out before all the other studios.

I guess that's true but I wouldn't call Hellblade AAA, and in fact I've never heard someone say it was an AAA game ... maybe an AA game that looked AAA. But the problem with Hellblade was that it was very apparent that the reason it looked triple A is because they used 99% of their budget for the looks and not the content, because the actual content was minimal, short, and had a lot of padding.

I guess Ninja Theory being the next one to make a triple A game is probably true if their staff has increased 5x. At the same time though, it will probably be a smaller triple A release.
