In a fantasy setting, I don't think it matters all that much. The gender of the cast is up to their creators of that universe. Can be all girl, all dude, or preferably (for me) an even mix of the two.

In a realistic setting, I mean, I guess I don't care personally, but I can see why some people might get upset. The use of token characters is present in all media though, and it's up to the creators to make those characters feel naturally incorporated. Personally I don't really like to see blatant attempts at filling a diversity quota, not because I have an issue with diversity of course, but because that type of thing just takes me out of the universe and makes me all too aware it's just a game, movie, etc.

That being said, it doesn't need to feel blatant either. I'm all for a nice diverse cast that fits well into the setting...though I suppose that's a bit subjective as to what that entails.
