You're the one derailing the conversation bud. It's about mascots and their importance. I have proven beyond a shadow of doubt why Sony has no need for them and MS/Nintendo are completely reliant on them and would go bankrupt if these few IPs were taken away from them as they simply lack the talent to create anything on the same level as what they did in the past. The attach rate of Sony's games vs. Nintendo's games has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Sony consoles sell more, have bigger libraries and a more diverse audience, all factors which lead to less attach rates for any individual game. Nintendo consoles have small install bases and very few worthwhile games to choose from and most buy the consoles for those few titles. 

Answer me this...what new IP this gen aside from Horizon Zero Dawn has been both critically acclaimed and sold more than Splatoon 2 this gen?

 

Bear in mind that Uncharted 4 and God of War are both existing IPs being the 5th and 7th game in their respective IP...I'll wait...

 

And FYI, you were the one who dragged Nintendo into this by making a poor comparison to justify your otherwise valid opinion of them not needing a mascot.  I am simply pointing out that your logic behind the comparison is flawed.
