I feel like this happens every gen where some big games launch right at the end of a console's life span that make some wonder "why was this not just waited on for the next gen launch", for example ones like The Last of Us releasing right at the end of the PS3's life and just a few months before the PS4.

In terms of Battletoads though we don't know if it will necessarily be a 'big' game or not yet since we still haven't seen anything about it, i'm super glad to see a new game being made in it but we've yet to see how big in scope this will be, will it be like a small Xbox Store downloadable game or like a full fledged game release. I could see it being maybe like a $30 game like how Rare Replay and Super Lucky's Tale were.

Plus like KLAMarine said, the next Xbox will probably have backwards compatibility again as well (I can't see them dropping it again after how hard they pushed to get it back with the Xbox One) so it will probably be playable there too. Either that or if the game turns out to be super successful and popular they can always just port it over to next-gen early in its life like how Sony did with The Last of Us Remastered, again for example.
