I disagree, but it isn't even the same thing as a list of likes/dislikes. They put their blood type, too, in most Japanese fighting games, and no one is randomly saying their blood type as part of a story. I'm talking about in a movie or TV show, where there's no reason for a character to announce that they're gay, and they feel the need to shoe-horn it in there. 

And how are we determining whether or not it's shoe-horned in? By whether or not you like it? Why does it bother you if someone says they're gay? Even if it's not essential to the plot? Movies and TVs have plenty of scenes/details that can be considered as not being essential. Are we going to eliminate side-quests in games too because they're not essential to the main plot?
