It came out 4 months ago. By this time the Xbox One sales already dropped off a cliff and the same can be said about Wii U and PS Vita (which never had great sales to begin with). 

Of course NES Mini sold out, nostalgia is a powerful thing. SNES Mini, if stocked properly, could outsell Xbox One and more this holiday season. 

Yes, but compare the NES mini's 4th year with Xbox one's fourth year and you'll see why your comparison of NS with ps4 is problematic. 

Also, what shortages did wiiu and psvita face?
Shortages do help create hype, hence the sales of amiibos when they weren't in stock with when they were and most people stopped caring.
