While I definitely think that Microsoft's efforts to bring their games to PC is great for consumers (choice is always a good thing), I do think there's a valid complaint still lingering about the quantity and quality of MS's first party offerings. When I buy a console, I tend to do so with the expectation that, in return for spending a lot of money on a fairly narrow-scoped machine, I'm going to be well served by the platform holder. I want the platform holder to do absolutely everything in its power to give me the very best offering it can to keep that platform interesting, strong, and alive with content.

I really do think MS tries its very best to make this happen, but if I owned an Xbox I'm not convinced I'd be satisfied with what MS does to return the favor. They're not bursting with the internal development variety that Sony has, and while that used to be okay when games were cheaper to produce and MS could broker better deals with external companies to guarantee a strong lineup that wouldn't exist without their support, both the cost of development and the fact that Xbox One represents such a small fraction of the marketplace means it's getting harder and harder to serve their audience in the way they used to.

By god, MS is trying, but it seems like all of its major franchises are waning (with Forza as a major exception of course) under the studio structure it set up after Bungie and Epic went separate ways. Sony has complete ownership of most of the studios that have always made its biggest franchises (again, with exceptions) and seems to allow them greater artistic flexibility. Sony's studio structure certainly has flaws too, but at least it guarantees that Sony will always be fronting development specifically for its audience, making a PS4 a safer bet for a stronger lineup. Just my thoughts at least, as an ex-Xbox fan that jumped ship around the Kinect era.
