Interesting viewpoint and definitely has merit. I also did not consider the game prices specifically because I consider Switch a WiiU successor.

Though I still think Nintendo was purposefully careful to not allow Switch to be seen as a 3DS successor so that:

1. 3DS hardware sales and thus profitability was secured.
2. 3DS could remain as a revenue safegaurd should Switch not do well.

I don't think what you say and what I am saying contradict eachother. More than likely it is all part of the overall plan that looks for max potential benefit regardless of the outcome of Switch's launch.

I can't agree with that. I think it was Koizumi who said in an interview before launch that Nintendo hopes the market will embrace Switch as a system that can be played at home on the TV and on the go. I don't remember the exact quote, but it carried the implication that Switch is indeed the successor to both the Wii U and 3DS.

What Nintendo has been careful about is to make it clear that the 3DS will not be like Wii U and dead immediately once Switch launches. This is how your point 1 and 2 make perfect sense, but your premise isn't correct. The Switch being seen as a 3DS successor (on top of being the Wii U successor) is something positive, because the 3DS side of this equation brings a wealth of third party content with it.

I am certain the launch of Switch included several direct quotes from Nintendo leadership that this was a new "home" console, yes they also touched on portability but directly calling it a home console. Afterall, those quotes drove endless rantings on this site. I really don't intend on scouring the webz for such quotes as I'm replying during a meeting at work, but eitherway I fully agree that Switch being the only hardware/pipeline for Nintendo is a greatly positivie result. I'm looking forward to seeing the wealth of first party solidly on a single plaform. I actually anticipated a bigger announcement of that at this E3. Kinda surprised not to see a confirmation of a main Pokemon or other historically portable title announced.
