Huh, that's surprising. But there are still a few 3DS games in the pipeline -- Monster Hunter, Kirby, Ever Oasis, Pikmin, Miitopia -- so I guess why not. I really don't think this signals that Nintendo plans to pump out more 3DS software at the expense of Switch. The strength of Switch is the unification of all software development. I'd be shocked if Nintendo submarined its new platform just to move a few million more 3DS units.

This strikes me more as a chance to push the 3DS games already en route, provide an attractive price point for late adopters, and maybe even create a gateway drug for a more powerful and future-friendly Switch. Just as BotW's multi-platform release didn't hurt Switch sales, a New 2DS won't cause consumers to suddenly forget about Nintendo's latest system.
