Demos were a thing long before Gen7, at least on the PC platform. In fact, it was during the Gen 7 era that demos started to disappear, mostly because the HD jump from consoles was so expensive that devs became scared that demos could show how their games actually were, aka. not as great as they wanted us to believe with their videos.

But going on to buy a game just to try if you like it or not, and then asking for a refund if you don't is, at least in my opinion, going way to far. Watching videos on youtube and reading reviews from trusted sites is what I do to know if I may like a certain game or not.

I know demos were a thing before gen 7, but before then you typically had to buy a gaming mag to get a demo disc. It was 7th gen when they became easy to download for free.

And youtube videos/reviews aren't really enough for me. They don't really cover the areas I care about and if I'm playing it myself, well I can look at exactly what I want

Besides, sometimes I refund a game because it simply won't run on my PC. Happened recently with Master of Orion and last year with State of Decay. I ain't got time to look at min specs and figure out if it will work or not. Just buy, download and try to play. Then I'll know with 100% accurace whether I can run it or not

There was a site, I don't remember its name and now it's closed, but it had tons of demos to download from various servers across the globe (to choose the one closer to you or the one with less traffic).

Oh, and that last part... that's being just lazy as f*ck .

*Edit* I just remembered: it's www.gamershell.com an it's still open, althought it doesn't have many new things.

Please excuse my bad English.
