Is it? The 3DS was $250 at launch and was barely more powerful than the PSP (which came out in 2004) and only had a resolution of 240p. Not to mention it launched with no good games until 9 months after launch.

The 3DS launched at ¥25,000 in JP (222$ USD), in the US 249$ at launch.

What happend? it didnt sell.

So nintendo dropped the price from 249$ -> 169$ within 5months of its launch.

You still think a 299$ price point isnt a issue for those that only want it as a handheld?

It didn't sell because it was a terrible piece of hardware, expensive (for what it was) and had no games. The Switch offers far more than the 3DS. And the Switch is less expensive in Japan as well compared to the US and Europe (around $260). So the Switch in Japan is only $40 more expensive than the 3DS at launch.
