Although it's a monster game, they're very different. I think you should have a go.

edit; another problem is the concept of yokai in the first place. My 4 year old cousin said she loved yokai, yet she couldn't even explain what they were.
Unlike Pokemon, yokai watch has a major appeal to Japan. You don't need context to know that Charizard is a badass fire-breathing lizard, or that Mewtwo is that punk who'll take your lunch money. On the other hand, you wonder what the hell some of the Yokai are based on.

I think you need to try it out. It's not bad. Combat is fun, it's funny, good story, lot of things to do, post game is great.

These type of games don't appeal to me anymore. I probably would have liked it back in the gameboy days when I was in primary (elementary) school.
