Remember the gamecube? It's basically as powerful as the wii(slightly less). It didn't do so well. Even though it was powerful, it only sold 25 mil.
Then again, times have changed. I guess Nintendo is just worried- they're not idiots, they want to have the most positive outcome. however, they've simply been unlucky in the console race.
As for handhelds, they couldn't be doing any better. 3DS is a massive success, so I guess Nintendo is going to aim for a unified library. Should the console fail, they can rely on the handheld.
