MS doesn't give numbers for gold subs, only total active Xbox live users.

Equally there's more people connected, gold or not, that in the same quarter last year. Of course there's less than in holiday season,  probably is the same every year, this is why almost every year take the same quarter of the last year to evaluate their results.
