I don't see how it could. From VGC data, Halo 3 sold 3.8 million copies worldwide in the first week. The vast majority of that was in the U.S. with a larger install base than the PS3 currently has. I realize MGS will sell well around the world, but it will take a penetration rate in the U.S. of almost 50 percent on launch to pull it off and I don't think even the most optimistic would predict that as a possibility in the first week. It will do very, very well, however, much like the first Gears did on the 360 as there isn't anything else to really compete with it (on the PS3).
