It's all dependent on context and preference.
- If you're discussing the ability to produce 1st party games of each of the company in the 8th gen then it's only fair to compare with aligned launches (so removing the last year for the Wii U)
- In a discussion about which console currently has the best software lineup then you consider all games available for all consoles.
- Most important of all, no matter how hard you try to argue with Metacritic scores, number of games, 1st vs 3rd party, in the end it comes down to gaming preferences and there's no definite answer to the question "Which 8th gen console has the best software?"
