With your options i think the console would look bigger and more expensive! :D
The redesign is something Wii U really needs and i think the reason it hasn't got one so far is because of the deals (price parts) Nintendo made and the amount of consoles still in stock (probably the reason why Nintendo bundled the basic console with Smash in Spain).
The redesign really needs to change the looks of the console, the gamepad and even the boxart. And change the name too.
In other words: re-launch it!
Also, would be cool if, when launching the redesign, Nintendo came out every month with a special edition remembering it's past: one edition for the NES, SNES, N64 and GC. Each containing Nintendo's launch games at the time, plus an original controller.
Nintendo doesn't have system sellers probably until Starfox comes out and surely won't drop the price by 100$.
This could very well be a way to attract those older gamers - now dads and moms.
