Many of the space marines stationed at Erioch were called into a special assembly.  The rumor was that someone with a paygrade many them could only dream of was onsite and had been since the last transport had arrived.  The chatter in the large area was filled with people speculating who it was, what they were observing, whether they were all still going to die a fiery, radiation-filled death, and why sheep were still exploding.  Space Marine Erin quietly avoided the sheepsplosion issue as she took a seat near the front of the area.

Cheers and applause resounded as none other than Jim Raynor walked on stage to address them.  He put his foot down figuratively and literally, his power armor creating a small tremor in the floor that echoed all the way to the back.  He talked about ending the threat and explained that he had a plan that could not fail.  Space Marine Erin felt her heart jump up into her throat when he abruptedly pointed in her direction and asked if he could count on her to handle what sounded like an important part of the plan.  This was her big chance to rise beyond a mere Space Marine.  Or it was her big chance, a voice immediately behind her called out acknowledging that Jim could count on him.

Many hours later, after night had fallen, Space Marine Erin sat in the sheep herding area petting one of the sheep that was silently making peace with its sheep-y gods.  Just for a moment she thought she was going to get to do something big.  Instead she was back to doing the same things she was doing day after day.  Commander Raynor was going to come, do something heroic, and then leave just like that.  She'd just be watching from the sidelines.  She sighed and stood up.  It wouldn't do to stay in the fields all night anyway.  The sheep knew its fate and followed along with her attempting to be petted until she passed through the fence to leave.

She looked at the colony, walking away as the sheep exploded behind her.  Jim Raynor's plan was probably in motion even now.  Or maybe it had already worked and they were celebrating.  She didn't feel much like celebrating however.  In her sadness, the young Space Marine didn't even notice the fragment of a blade fly from the explosion behind her to land in the grass off to the side.
