On wii u this year...
Scram kitty - A very good and diffrent platform shoot em up. A steep learning cure and strange inaccessible gameplay mean it's not for everyone but I've put a fair number of hours into it keep returning to it.
Armillo - A good platformer. Ruff around the edges. Feels almost like it's an early attempt at a 3d platformer from the n64/ps1 era and feels like a fullgame from that era.
Stick it to the man - Exceptional. In my top ten adventure games and it's also an interesting platformer to boot.
Guacamelee - Very good, but to my mind not the exceptionally great game some people think it is. A good platformer but not really much of a metroidvania. Unravel the path you take and make it a strange left to right game like Mario and it wouldn't change the gameplay much. It's not got the sense of exploration you get from a good metroidvaina. I'd say it's as much of a metroidvainia as something like Wonderboy 3 the dragons trap.
Xtype+ - Good and has soaked up a lot of hours very quickly. Addictive in an almost flappy bird like way but a deeper game. Sadly no off tv mode. For the price an excellent buy.
Abyss - A very simple game but OK for a very short diversion.
Toki Tokki 2+ - reasonably good puzzle platformer.
I bought one indie game on 3ds this year.. Cave Story 3d and it wipes the floor with almost all the above. A truley great metroidvainia.
