It seems they tried to deny PSN was down until it was too obvious
"We are aware that some users are experiencing difficulty enjoying the PSN. We have confirmed the PSN is stable. If you are having trouble, we encourage you to contact your internet service provider."
I hope for their sake that this time they will announce the eventual leak of personal data before it becomes too obvious
