That's how Sega died; pulling the plug on the struggling Saturn too soon and burning their core fanbase.

It's not just that. SEGA faithfuls supported the Sega CD and they killed that early. They were tricked into buying the 32X and that lasted about a year. These Genesis could have lasted another year or two, but they pulled the plug on that. With the Saturn, SEGA kind of bankrupted themselves and they had to kill that off early, although I still believe that the US and Europe should have gotten Dreamcast before Japan since Saturn sales were still good in Japan.
