8th gen, both in terms of timing and performance...
just look at SSB, MK, Mario Land graphics, project X, seriously above the best Xbox360/Ps3 graphics, and WiiU is only 1st year, also can be compared to Ps4/XboxONE launch graphics, so yeah, WiiU is much closer to Ps4/XboxONE than Ps3/Xbox360
