I wouldn't go that far. I'm sure that they're just careless because it's the internet (same with texting). As someone who has to write in academic English all the time, posting online is pretty awesome, as you can post anything without having to worry about every minor detail.

No, nothing to do with the internet. Bought and brought is a common mistake, was when I was at school and is now. Many of the general populace do not know the difference.

It's usually a case that many people who learn the English language have a better grasp for certain words, sentences or structure because they have to get it right to pass their test (else a slight mistranslation could lead to something like the 'Reed Sea' being the 'Red Sea'). Yet native speakers don't go through the same testing so a 'brought' in an essay will get a red circle around it but won't affect the mark and will be instantly forgotten.
