No the action actually took place on the screen for the games that used it.  At least some of them.  Pacman vs and much of Four Swords which were the only ones I played.

Alright then.  I only played Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles using that feature, thought Four Swords was the only other one and assumed that was the same.  I'll have to take your word on it.

Btw.  Are you sure you played Four Swords using the Gamecube?  It was also available through the GBA cart of Link to the Past.  Just saying.  Maybe you're confused.
