Never underestimate the power of Mario.
I'll wait for 3D Mario and Mario Kart to come out. If neither of those do anything significant for the Wii U we can pretty much say the Wii U will share the same fate as the N64 and GC. Those games saved the 3DS and I imaging something similar will happen to the Wii U.
