Agreed. I think it has more to do with appealing to the investors than much of anything else. Their meeting is on Wednesday, so might as well have a slew of cool stuff leading up to it since the Wii U will be a hot topic. Part of me is expecting some kind of announcement to come out of it as well. I believe they revealed NSMB2 at an investor thing, and the most recent one Iwata talked about how there were several unannounced projects that could very well come out this year. That W101 potential German release date could be confirmed with NA getting it mid-late May.
For all we know there will be another Direct sometime soon after the meeting to talk about W101, Wii Fit U, MiiParty or whatever that was, Deus Ex?, and those "efforts from our third party publishers on Wii U" that Iwata talked about in January. They normally don't announce those with more than 24 hours notice so we just won't know.
.....I need to not get myself worked up with talk like that....
