It wouldn't work the same unless Nintendo was able to produce their own controller for their games. That's always been the motivation for Nintendo to start development with a controller in hand first. They would be too much of control freaks to work with other consoles. They would need to partner with apple or PC so they can create their own unique peripherals for them to be software-centric.
