Unfortunately fanboys would rather follow hardware and bitch about the lack of software. As such one of the best JRPGs of the generation will likely never see a sequel. As with The Last Story, Mistwalker was only the developer of the game. The IP belongs to the hardware manufacturer. Nintendo owns the The Last Story and Microsoft owns Lost Odyssey.

Your preaching to the choir. MS tried to secure JRPGs early on in hopes of getting the Japanese demographic. It was a good plan, they just were not buying it. Thats all their really is too it, and its not like Americans are that big into the genre anymore either. Not in the way they were in PS1 days and alot of people probably believe that Wii and/or PS3 would get JRPGs so in a way you are kind of wrong as they did follow hardware and they ARE gettign software. PS3 has been getting hooked up for years. And as ive stated the more important titles ended  up getting ported anyway . Theres about 6 JRPGS being released this year alone and only one of them is multiplat.
