shams said: Well, so much for this thread - another one down the toilet ;)
How's that?
I think this is partially true - but its more complex than this again. I think you can more accurately look at it, by setting up an "appeal" factor for each demographic. I do this, as its possible (and likely) that *every* console has some appeal for each demographic. To say Nintendo is NOT targeting 15-35yr old males is rubbish - but you can say that they are targeting them LESS.
Nothing is ever as simple as one puts it to be. And I didn't say that Nintendo are NOT targeting 15-35 year-olds. I am referring to their primary target.
What Nintendo has done (and its been widely discussed) is attract new people into the "gaming pool" - expanding the potential market. As stated in a recent press release - its not about fighting for a bigger portion of the same pie - its about increasing the total size of the pie (or attracting consumers outside of the pie completely). Consumers that MS & Sony can't touch.
Nintendo IS widening the demographics. Who said otherwise? In fact, you summed up what I wanted to say: Nintendo is not after the same pie that Sony and Microsoft are after. Who's disagreeing? Go back and read my post: I specifically stated that "for the sake of argument"; that was directly aimed at Sony and Microsoft fanboys (you know who you are). Me? I couldn't care less who wins. I have/will buy all the consoles anyhow. The more the merrier. So again, why down the toilet?
