I have considered myself a lifelong Nintendo fan and more recently a 360 fan, though the recent state of the industry has left me fleeing to PC and tablet gaming. I have lost much faith in Nintendo since around 2009 when they seemed intent on cutting the Wii's life short with their major drought of software and again forgetting about the mass market audience that gave them success with the Wii and DS. They seemed to have regressed back to the niche games that populated the late N64 and Gamecube library, and now seem to care more about creating new hardware innovations than new game ideas. Their arrogance and stubbornness has become baffling to me and reminiscent of Sony of the mid 2000s.
Microsoft has shown they were never really competent with hardware with the unacceptable rate of RROD. Sure that was mostly rectified with the newer model, but it should have never been an issue in the first place. This has caused me to lose much trust in MS, at least in the hardware department. Most of their library can be found on the PC anyway, with more flexibility in mods and with better graphics.
As for Sony, their games have never done it for me. I have never been a fan of their cutsene-heavy games that seem to rely more on story and cinematics than actual gameplay. Also, their PS3 is STILL too expensive to me, which is absurd considering the console is now over 6 years old.
I also find the price of $60 for most new games WAY too much, especially since most bought at this price are beaten and then discarded or placed on the shelf to gather dust soon after. I just see the current state of the game industry as a sad one that is doomed for reccession, and perhaps even another Atari style crash if it gets bad enough. In the meantime, I will be relishing in PC and indie gaming with my new gaming desktop.
