I fully agree with you. I made the mistake early on to be curious and try out different scenarios. That quickly shows that pretty much nothing matters. I just finished chapter 4 and the only significant difference so far is whether Doug or Carley plays a minor role during episode 2. Both die at the same time shortly after, and the extra option Carley gives to confess in episode 2 doesn't matter at all at the important moment.

It's not just events that play out exactly the same, most dialogue responses don't even change. They sorta fit all the answers, sometimes a line is added or one left out. Lot of times it's not an A,B,C choice anyway, more like 3 variants of A.
Trying to sabotage certain scenes shows how the game 'adapts' to make sure the same happens, which makes the characters seem a bit inconsistent at times. You want someone to help/come with you, you have to practically beg them. You don't want the same person to come with you, they'll think up excuses until the game takes over and lets them join you anyway.

It's still a good story with decent written dialogue but as a game it's pretty lacking. A second play through is pretty tedious already and although I was planning another run being completely loyal to Kenny, I don't think I will. No way to skip or fast forward scenes or dialogue makes it pretty painful.
From someone who did 4 runs through DA:Origins, 3 of DA2, 3 of Catherine, and all paths through Heavy rain, TWD simply doesn't have the replay value.
