Most of the differences between systems are pretty minor with the games themselves being the most important features. The only part where the PS3 suffers noticeably, in my opinion, is that downloading and installing stuff is more intrusive than it needs to be, just as you said. Still, that's why I have everything download at night and let the system turn itself off, and PS+ is godly for auto-downloading patches and backing up your saves while you sleep. I love turning my PS3 on and seeing that PS+ has taken care of everything already.

Oh, and if the triggers and thumb-sticks bother you, there are cheap attachments. I love the trigger extenders and you can get analog stick extenders with different tops.
