It got lost in all the hype, but the longest-lasting issue was overlooked by VGChartz.

Puerto Rico successfully passed its referendum in regards to changing its status with the United States. In the process of that, they declared their intentions to join the United States of America as its 51st state.

The measure passed 54/46 to change its status. From there, they voted 61% to change the territory's status to statehood (the other options being free association or independence, which recieved far less of the vote).

There is no timetable set for entry, as there will probably need to be another vote to confirm the island's intentions, but I think it's pretty exciting that there may be a 51st state in my lifetime.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
