...or maybe I should say "last generation"?
Anyway, with this generation slowly approaching an end, now is a great time to look back and share all of your latest favorite games! You can feel free to add unreleased titles as well though, as long as it's noted.
Here are my choices in no particular order:
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
The game that would turn out to be the peak of its series. I spent countless hours trying to 100% as many songs as possible and eventually trying to beat the characteristic song "Through the Fire and Flames" (which I later did and got 5 stars on expert =). Gameplay will probably never get more pure than this.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)
One might argue that this game belong to the sixth generation of gaming, but even if I had not invested all my fucks in the upcoming E3 press conference, I'd still keep them. This game introduced many new elements to the already awesome series (*cough PIG RODEO cough*) which, along with an epic story, made the game a timeless adventure.
Halo Wars (X360)
One extremely underrated title, in my opinion. For a strategy game, the gameplay was very simple. But that's also one of its main appeals: You may be relatively new, but you can still do fine against the well-trained as long as you're aware of their strategy. Looking for some photo-realistic warfare with massive 200 vs 200 Spartan battles? LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE! This is plain, simple and fun, like a game should be.
Mario Kart DS
Still one of the greatest handheld experiences I've ever had. This package contains Grand prix, Versus, Time Trails, Ballon Battle, Shine Runners, local multiplayer, online multiplayer, 32 maps, 36 vehicles and even a mission mode, and it's portable!! "Replay-Value" is its first name, and "Time-Machine" is its family name.
Dead Space 2
While some would argue that Dead Space 1 would be more suited for this spot, I never got the chance to try it out (other than the demo :(, but this game still featured the most badass gaming experience I've ever had. Dismember the otherwise invincible undead in order to proceed! (And for the love of God, go visit the bathroom before playing it!)
Super Smash Brothers Brawl (Wii)
Ever wanted to punch your friends so hard that they enter orbit or crash into the camera? NOW YOU CAN! With a massive amount of options and a complete lack of motion controls (*COUGH, COUGH*) this title is a must-have for all Wii owners! Also, in case you'd be throwing a big party and everyone wants to play Wii for some reason then fear not, for 32 players can participate in the tournament mode!
Perfect Dark Zero (X360)
Yup. Not many people like this particular FPS game made by the legendary UK developer Rare, but I DO. Sure, there was a few glitches here and there and also over there and one here, but the multiplayer easily made up for it. How can you compete with awesome 32-player zombie matches?!? And the campaign, while featuring some horrific voice acting and a terrible story, actually had a lot to offer, even for the skilled players. In the end I had actually completed four missions on the hardest difficulty (which is pretty fucking hard) using nothing but the Falcon pistol, which has nothing to do with anything.
New Super Mario Bros. (DS)
This game was fun.
Halo 3 (X360)
While the campaign, in my opinion, didn't feature the same 'replayability' as the one seen in Halo:CE or Halo 2, it was still highly memorable and one of the most epic experiences to... experience. And then there was the perfectly crafted online multiplayer which is where the actual core of the game is located. Want to build your own multiplayer maps? Go ahead! Want to record movies too? EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
Metro 2033 (X360/PC)
The greatest surprise on this list. This game had a few glitches, mediocre ratings and a completely linear campaign mode (which was the only mode by the way), but it also had an unmatched atmosphere which made it immortal in my eyes. Humanity is trapped underground while the surface is toxic, ammo is the new currency, Russian is the new language and monsters threaten our last fragment of society. Sounds like a basic setting? It's not!
