I might take some shit for this, but adding the "online pass" actually makes the used game market more like any other used market.

Hear me out.

Usually when you buy something used you are getting a slightly worn and INFERIOR version of the new thing. Take a car for example: You buy used to save money, but it may have dings in the body, or maybe it has some high mileage and won't last for very long, or maybe it burns oil so you have to constantly add more. You save money on the initial purchase to deal with some issues later.

HOWEVER, with the used game industry, people are accustomed to paying used prices for an operationally "new" game. In the past buying a game new or used really had no difference. You had all the features, all the content, at all the same speeds, for a reduced price.

With online pass people are finally getting an actual "used" game for the price they are paying.

I agree with you for the most part, although I can see the issue with some people because of the used prices of games (places like Gamestop, for example, who sell used games of new titles for like $5 less than the new value). Of course, if people shop around, I'm sure they can get a used copy of a newer title for a lot less than what stores like Gamestop has.
