Those implants you talk of will happen but they are magnitudes more complex and there are huge practical problems. Our technology just isnt there yet on every level.
Whereas the contact lenses are technologically easier and I am sure we will witness them (in an acceptable quality) in our lifetime. At the beginning they will be as useless a VR in the 80s/90s.
