Actually generally only pigs and chickens are raised inhumanely on a massive scale (so excluding foie gras and veal for example) this is mostly because raising beef or mutton inhumanely costs more than just letting them chew grass in a field. At supermarkets where I come from you can easily buy both free-range eggs and chicken and 'happy' (free-range) pork.

Caged is actually better than so-called "free range", which means that chicken are kept loose in a large barn, hacking, trampling and shitting all over each other, with far less space than in an individual cage. "Free range" just looks better on the box in your supermarket.
