Well, by now, the industry would have collapsed and Sony and MS would be playing "Who Pulls the Plug on Video Games First?" in the home console market, with most notable third parties bankrupt.

Yeah because the gaming industry collapsed the last two gens without Nintendo in the drivers seat.

It has nothing to do with Nintendo being in the driver's seat. The last two generations did not have consoles as ridiculously overpowered and overpriced early on as the PS3 and 360 ($600 and $400 at a loss). If it weren't for Wii sitting on top of them, the HD consoles would've probably fought each other to death with price cuts and the like and third parties wouldn't have had quick, inexpensive games on the Wii to balance off huge HD development costs.

Thats the way it is every gen, theres no way in hell third parties would have any more costs then they did originally. You act like third parties were ONLY developing for the WII at first. But the 360 came out a year before it. And your price cut argument makes no sense. The WII IS the driving force for why the systems have been price cutting so much since it is the cheapest. Theres no way Sony would have had to drop the price of the ps3 by 300$ in three years to keep up with the 360 which has only been under it by 100-200$.
