Well, I wouldn't exactly fall off my chair in pain if they decided to implement virtual medals, but I prefer having unlockable content. Of course, there could be both.
For me to like a reward system it would have to be quite "flexible" though. The amount of rewards shouldn't have to be the same fo every game; let the developers decide how many achievements to put in their games; let them decide whether they actually want achievements in their games or not as well. There are too many games where achievements are collected by simply moving to the next chapter...
It would also need to be linked to some greater award than a mere virtual medal. Let me unlock new content for my medals or something like that.
