There haven't been a lot of fighting games on the Wii.  I am not sure if Soul Calibur V would sell well on the Wii, but it would be cool if they made a Wii version with a few exclusive characters like Donkey Kong, Bowser, or Link.

As for me, I probably wouldn't get Soul Calibur on the Wii as the HD version would probably have vastly superior online play and better graphics.

Well the HD systems haven't really been swimming in them either. It seems to be a neglected genre this gen.

This could be explained by the reduction in arcade style games in general, and the push for games with loads of presentation, which fighting games have never really been big on. It's hard to care about cut scenes and loads of polygons when you are busy trying to, well, play the game.

Fighting games seem to be making a resurgence on HD consoles though.  Soul Calibur V, Streetfighter vs. Tekken, Tekken vs. Streetfighter, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and possibly Tekken Tag 2 (will get a console version sooner or later), are all on the horizon.  Marvel vs. Capcom 3 looks especially sweet, but at least Wii owners had TVC to balance out that game.

Soul Calibur, however, is my all time fighting franchise.  I really hope they can redeem themselves with this game.  IMO, no Soul Calibur game has yet eclipsed SC1 on Dreamcast.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D
